Chesham is located in the Chiltern Hills, the river running through the town, the Chess, owes it name to the town, which is contrary to the popular belief that the town got its name from the river!
Thomas Harding was burnt at the stake in the town in 1532 for being a heretic and the town was notoriously linked with religious dissent in the 15th century.
Chesham is often quoted as owing its fame to the four B's: Boots, Beer, Brushes and Baptists, relating to the religous and industrial links that thrived in the town.
The clock tower that stands in Market Square was built in 1992 on the site of the 18th century town hall that had been demolished in 1965.
St Mary's Church in the town dates back to around the 12th century.
Many TV shows have been filmed in Chesham's old town and High Street, among them are Inspector Morse, Midsommer Murders, The Professionals and Chucklevision.
Chesham Library houses a special collection of childrens books that are from the Victorian Era including some of those that belonged to Florence Nightingale.
